What is TMS? Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy is a new breakthrough in mental health treatment. It provides a safe, non-invasive, non-drug treatment option provided in the outpatient environment. Within a brief few years, the paradigm of mental health treatment has significantly revolutionized beyond just medication-based and cognitive therapy-based options. How does it work? TMS therapy uniquely delivers a focused stimulation to a specific region of the brain associated with depression, anxiety, PTSD and other mental illnesses. By treating the brain cortex directly with a MRI-like technology packaged into a small, compact and safe module, TMS has been shown to be an effective approach to improve brain function in a gentle manner. Using a powerful magnetic field to induce electrochemical changes in the brain cortex, TMS is able to produce effects associated with neuroplasticity leading to lasting improvements to brain function and activity.
